Meet Dr. Brittany Waller!

As an award-winning, board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Brittany Waller brings a rich arsenal of experience, education and insight to her work. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, a Medical Degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and carried out a 5-year dermatology residency and a subspecialty fellowship in Dermatologic Laser Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology through the University of Toronto. Her wealth of education and experience is so impressive that it’s hard to summarize- feel free to read more about Dr. Waller here to get the full picture!

  1. Hi Dr. Waller! What first drew you to the Dermatological field?

I love treating patients of all ages and using clinical skills to make on-the-spot diagnoses. I also love the visual and surgical aspects of the specialty. It’s exciting to find real solutions for challenging medical cases and aesthetic patients.

2. What do you love about your job?

I love that every day is different! You never know what cases will come through your door: acne, rosacea, hair loss, nail disease, skin cancer- no clinic day is ever the same. I also love helping each patient’s inner beauty shine with the various cosmetic enhancements and treatments at our fingertips as a full-service clinic! As a dermatologist, I am privileged to get to interact with many different people every day- patients, clients, and staff! It’s a very rewarding career to make a meaningful impact in someone’s life.

3. What is the skin concern you hear the most often?

“I’m looking for subtle things that can be done to make me feel more refreshed or relaxed.”

4.  How do we really get rid of sun damage?

The best way of getting rid of sun damage is to prevent it in the first place! Sun avoidance and sun protection with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30+ is very important. Cosmeceuticals can also be used for added protection; we are lucky to carry some high-quality brands at the clinic. While we have various treatments to target signs of sun damage, it’s better to protect the skin you’re in before the signs start to appear!

5. What is one Derm Myth you would most like to bust?

A common misconception is that dermatologists only treat acne. The staff at Dermatology on Bloor are experts in all diseases of the skin, hair, and nails; including inflammatory diseases like eczema and psoriasis, skin cancers, fungal infections, hair loss conditions, and more. The list goes on!

6. What is one thing you wish everyone would do to look after their skin?

Wear a good quality sunscreen 365 days a year!

7. What is your favourite skincare product?

I have so many! I love the Vitamin C powerhouses like SkinCeuticals® C E Ferulic and Phloretin- they’re antioxidant serums with evidence-based science behind them. Skinceuticals Retexturing Activator promotes more radiant, healthy skin. Skinceuticals Phytocorrective mask is fantastic for post-procedure, and Colorescience® Mineral Powder sunscreen is a convenient product for sun protection on the go.

8. What is your favourite treatment?

Clear + Brilliant!

9. If there’s one piece of advice you could give your younger self about skincare, what would it be?

Always wash your makeup off, never use a tanning bed and always wear sunscreen!

10. What do you like to do to unwind?

I love to travel, exploring the arts/culture scene in Toronto, and running! In recent years, I have completed marathons in Newport and Chicago and hope to do another one in the near future! Prior to medicine, I was a dancer for over 20 years. I worked as a dance teacher during my undergraduate studies, and love attending performances by the National Ballet of Canada so I can continue enjoying one of my passions.

11. Coffee or tea?

Both!

Thanks Dr. Waller!
