Why do I have visible veins and what can I do about it?

If you’ve noticed visible veins on your legs, face, nose, or chin, you’re not alone. Many people notice visible veins that become more apparent over time. We offer innovative treatment solutions for visible veins without surgery or invasive procedures. Let’s explore why you have visible veins and what you can do about it–with our help!

What are visible veins?

Visible veins or telangiectasias are small, broken blood vessels that are visible on the surface of the skin. Your visible veins may be pink, red, or blue. Visible veins vary in size but they’re typically 1-3mm wide and occur primarily on the face, nose, and chin, although they can also be seen on the legs.

Why do I have visible veins?

Visible veins can become more noticeable over time and with aging. The colour or visibility of your veins may become more prominent with sun or wind exposure, skin damage, or other changes like pregnancy. Visible veins can also be genetic and become more visible with age. Genetic factors and medical conditions like rosacea also play a role in how noticeable veins on your face or legs may be.

What can I do about my visible veins?

The next blog in our series will focus on treatment solutions we offer, like laser treatments that help your cells regenerate and reduce pigmentation. But other factors may affect your visible veins, like excessive drinking or sun exposure. If you suffer from rosacea, it’s also wise to learn your triggers (sunlight, heat, inflammation, alcohol consumption) to reduce rosacea symptoms which can include visible veins. Smoking or an inactive lifestyle can also make visible veins worse, so maintaining your health is important in both the health and aesthetic quality of your skin.
